Coincidentally, we had Talk Talk/Pipex/Tiscali/AOL (I think they're out to monopolise the ISP business) on the phone earlier.

One of the things that makes me dig my heels in and refuse to go over to the company, despite their being considerably cheaper than most others, is that I object to their hard sell tactics.

In the past 12 months we've had their flyers shoved through our letterbox (umpteen times), their reps knock at the door (several times) and more phone calls from them than I care to remember.

I don't wish to sound patronising, but have you checked your server details in your email client?

If unsure about how to do this (which I'm sure you are), just right-click on the relevant account in your email client (eg Outlook Express) & select Properties. Then, under the Servers tab check your entries there.

I've attached a screenshot of how one of my TalkTalk accounts is set up.

(PS pop3.talktalk.net will also work as mail.talktalk.net)

Thanks Fourpart, but nothing has been changed and it chuffing worked a week ago. The homepage is erratic but to log on as a member, thats as far as I get, it just returns me to the log on, time to ring them in the next few days and throw abuse

If it's of any help, it turned out that part of my problem was that I had a couple of Nasties which MalWareBytes had totally missed (most unusual for MWB, I might add). One was Adware & the other a Hijacker.

I found them by downloading & scanning with SpyBot, Search & Destory (Freeware, downloaded from www.downloads.com). Unfortunately, it wasn't able to remove them, but as it gave the precise Registry location I was able to remove them manually, and haven't had any problems since.

I guess it can't do any harm to give that a check through, just in case.

Sounds like when Lineone changed to Tiscali, I remember there were loads of problems trying to log into the member areas, in fact, I seem to remember that in 'some places on the site' it would work, but not on the main areas of the site for some reason, maybe the same things happened again since Talk Talk have taken over it. The Tiscali site is quite vast and therefor there's lots of caveats for potential problems, try accessing an area that's only supposed to be for members and it should ask for your username and password, try inputting them there instead and see what happens. Also on a slightly different note, it could be down to the cookie settings of the browser, and whether it deems the site as good or bad. eg if you log into ukchat and tick the remember me, it uses cookies to 'remember you, which when you go through the different pages of the site, it checks to see if you have an active cookie, if so you're logged in, if not, you're logged out.
