I've just put together my Xmas Avatar, which should be animated. The animation is working on my PC, but doesn't appear to be working in the forum display.

I sized it as 149 x 149, so as to fall within the parameters - although it came out as 80 x 80 for some reason.

I know that animated gifs as avatars do work on here, as my other one was animated, and there are other animated ones online, so I was just wondering why mine wasn't - do they have to be approved or something?

Animated avatars don't require approval, they merely have to be within the forum limits as you already know.

Is the resized version you uploaded (79 x 79 according to what I can see) working on your computer? The file size of your avatar seems too small for an animated gif so I'm guessing one of two things might have occured:

1. When it was resized it was converted to a single frame.

2. For some reason only a single frame has been uploaded to here.

The file size of the avatar you uploaded (which wouldn't animate) was 1.91kb. The file size of the animated version you attached to your later post is much bigger at 24.4kb zipped (25.7kb unzipped).

As I stated in my previous post, for some reason, it looks as though only a single frame was uploaded. Still, you're sorted now.

Thanks - I like making my own personalised ones. Unfortunately the writing on it doesn't come across as clear as I'd like it to - mainly due to lack of resolution available, but the general theme is clear enough.

And thanks for getting it working Morph. If it is a case of memory parameters, then perhaps it might be worth increasing the parameters. Or how about being able to href link the avatar to an external source, such as from personal albums? I don't know if that would work, be worth it, or if it's even possible - just an idea.

No thanks needed, also, storm was originally looking into it so I think I may have just jumped in feet first, though I just took the original image contained within the zip, and uploaded it, both with a test account and my account, so I know it's not some setting that's in place that stops the upload. As for hrefing an external source, when you look at your profile page, you have an option on using a http://www. source

As I've already explained: when you uploaded your avatar it had a file size of a mere 1.91kb (a lot smaller than the 25.7kb of the one you zipped and attached at a later date). I also downloaded the file you'd uploaded as an avatar to check it on my own computer and it wasn't animated.

It's highly unlikely it was anything to do with the forum.

No worries. That's all I'd have done myself had I been online before you after he attached his zipped version.
